Kim Kardashian West and Cara Delevingne are two well-known celebrities with psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder most commonly characterized by rough scaly plaques or patches. The patches can occur anywhere on the body and come and go. Stress, physical rubbing of the skin, and alcohol are triggers for eruptions.

Is psoriasis genetic?
Yes! It is a polygenic trait, meaning the changes of getting psoriasis increases significantly if both parents have psoriasis. One parent has a 8% chance of passing down psoriasis, while two parents have a 41% chance of passing it down.

How do you treat psoriasis?
The treatment of psoriasis becomes more aggressive depending on its severity. Our office uses different types of topical steroids or steroid injections. For the scalp, we use a special type of steroid or medications with tar or zinc. We also utilize several unique lasers and light therapy that helps treat the inflammation and redness. Our patients like our laser treatments because they can target large areas while still being very targeted.
